Giverny The Gateway For Art Of Claude Monet

The Normandy occupies a large area in France, with the same size of Belgium, a neighboring country. One hour by car from Paris. The artistic Upper Normandy includes the departments of Eure and Seine-Maritime and the cities of Giverny, Rouen, Etretat, Le Havre and Evreux. The other side of Normandy is the charming Lower Normandy, with the departments of Calvados, Manche and Orne, and Lisieux, Caen, Deauville, Trouville and Honfleur destinations. Among them you can get your Tourist France Visa and explore the romantic Seine River.

The small village of Giverny stays 75 km from the capital Paris and greets the people who arrive at Norman lands. In Giverny, the painter Claude Monet, founder of Impressionism, lived for 43 years with his wife Alice Hoschedé and their eight children. The landscapes of the village became alive in his paintings.

Take your France Visa and get ready to enjoy a lot of art and culture. Walking through the streets you can observe clear the idea of Claude Monet’s inspirations. The Monet Foundation, for example, gathers a lot of amazing work of arts. Many of the species plants in Giverny were painting by him, like the Nymphs series.

Other mandatory stop is the Museum of American Art which gathers original arts and some copies of Monet, which was painted by young American painters who settled in the village with the intention of learning the craft from the master of Impressionism.

Another reference is the art museum of Impressionism, an obligatory stop for understanding the origins and diversity of the art movement that existed during the 19th and 20th centuries, which shows the beauty of the Seine River and other faces of Normandy. But be aware of the functioning of these three attractions schedule: they are open only from April to November.

Our tip is to visit the restaurant Les Jardins de Giverny, 500 meters from the Monet Foundation, a century-old home with the traditional gastronomy in the village. Food is served in cloches (bell-shaped utensils) silver and the specialty is foie gras with apples calvados sauce (a typical drink of the region) accompanied by gingerbread, the perfect dish to savor looking for a work of Monet.

How To Go There?
